Very good food in a comfortable, homey setting. Parking in the area is difficult and there is limited menu descriptions in English. Note that the vegetable stir fry included spam. It was very tasty, with the veggies balancing the salt. The miso soup was also very good.
Literally a mom and pop shop with amazingly authentic food, subtly seasoned noodle bowls and lovingly hand crafted nigiri and maki. It definitely seemed like a local spot and we were the only visitors in the place. We thank the owner's for treating us so well! Arigato!
This place is excellent: we ordered chanpuru, soba, sushi and saba, all were on the mark.
Always a classic. Everything is tasty. A very endearing a nostalgic place. I recommend the Saba.
Small restaurant with authentic Okinawan food
Fantastic place! Such good food and the people who run this place are so kind! Would 100% recommend for you to come! A wonderful hole in the wall!
Excellent authentic Okinawan food and good prices. Go for the Pigs Feet soup. So ono!
Wonderful longstanding Okinawa style family restaurant. This place is NOT about the decor, it’s about the food and the vibes and the service. BYOB; the gas station down the street sells Orion, the Okinawa beer of choice. Their special miso is so delicious, along with the rest of their soups. Their soup and sushi combo is a great deal. On certain nights the server may serenade the room while everyone raises their hands to dance along!
Tomoko and Katsu were just as lovely as the reviews say! They put up with my broken Japanese-English mix, and the goya chanpuru was delicious, served with fluffy, perfect rice. My new favorite spot... I will be back very soon, if not tomorrow.
I love this place. But I also love Okinawan food. Local establishment. Nothing fancy. Good sushi and sashimi. BYOB. Goya Chompuru is my favorite, but bitter melon is an acquired taste.
Excellent food and service. Nice people operate this establishment.
All of our meals were great
Mom and pop restaurant. Best oxtail soup in the island, available only on Mondays and Thursdays. Shortribs soup and pig's feet soup are just as good available every day. Other dishes are also good. Comfort food and affordable.
Ooooshi! Okinawan food! The pig feet soup and spare rib soup is so yummy! I love the soup base. Most of the 🍣nigiri sushi comes with wasabi on it 🙊! I keep forgetting to ask them no wasabi please! 🤦🏻 Call in order to take out, finding parking can be a bit hard there, or a far walk.
Sunrise Restaurant offers authentic Okinawan dishes. I've never really had Okinawan food before except for at the Okinawan festival. I didn't really care for the food at the festival and I thought that's how it really tasted. So I really never ventured out to a Okinawan restaurant and tried it again Sunrise restaurant is an absolute hidden gem. I'm so thankful to Yelp for helping me find this place.
Goof combo! Excellent service
This place was on my to go list for a while, but I only went because the nearby Tonkatsu place had a 2 hour wait. The food is probably much better by comparison and, honestly, Okinawan food is a big part of Hawaii. This place has fantastic prices, highly recommend the Okinawan dish + sushi combo stuff, great value and great taste.
Authentic Okinawa cuisine, sushi was mediocre.
Homemade style Okinawan cooking. Simple and very delicious! We shared the pork bittermelon and I had the spareribs soup and sushi combo. Yum! Very small place, street parking mostly.
The food here is really homey, but I don't think it's as spectacular as everything I've heard. It's super affordable, so that's good. But I have to say my parents make a pretty mean oxtail soup and pan-fried noodle. And this place doesn't stand up to their versions. I would still highly recommend going here, especially if you're getting sick of highly commercial food in Waikiki.
Homestyle Okinawan food. Nothing flashy, just great food at really great prices.
First night in Hawaii. Came upon the Sunrise while walking. Excellent, authentic food. Good prices. Friendly at-home atmosphere.
Great vibe - cozy and welcoming from husband and wife owners. Also there is live music!
Arguably the best food we had on our trip. Everyone was very welcoming and kind. Felt like a home cooked meal.
Just wow! If you want some authentic Okinawan food come here and you won't be disappointed!
Delicious food and very polite customer service! Always on top of drink levels and making sure we are enjoying our food. Only reason for 4 stars was due to lack of parking and the restaurant itself is small making seating difficult for larger parties. Will be coming back over and over again in the future!
I enjoy Sunrise Restaurant every time!
Nice Okinawan family setting, with the Okinawan vine.
Okinawan food for a great price with excellent service. #SupportLocalDELICIOUS Sushi Platter for $35 (Original $50). Call a day in advance for this great deal.
Small place, great service. Best oxtail soup!
Always great food and service
Great hole in the wall restaurant ran by the most nicest couple. They treat their customers very well and I always see regulars here always having a great time. They specialize in sushi and Okinawan cuisine. They currently have a sushi platter deal for only $35, which you need to call a day in advance. I also love their pig feet soup!
Okinawan style. Get the special Miso soup with sushi (nigiri style) its my fave. The ox tail soup is fantastic as well.
My go to place for Okinawan home cooking. More of at home feel than a restaurant. Brings back memories of my grandma's cooking. Excellent! Tip: Buy a Orion beer (from Okinawa) or your favorite drink at the gas station up the street. It's BYOB at Sunrise.
Great fried founder and wonderful soups even simple miso soup which has daikon and kelp.
Unique family owned restaurant serving authentic aloha and cuisine
The resturant was very cozy..the oxtail soup was delicious. Its their specialty.. the combo sushi was also delicious. .
They have the best Okinawan soba! It made me miss Okinawa.
My husband and I visit Honolulu from Sydney every year. Part of the attraction in coming to Honolulu is this wonderful, humble eatery. The food is simple, honest and utterly terrific. In a two week holiday, we'll eat here almost every second night. Owners are welcoming. Fellow-diners all are in for a chat. Coming here is not only a great meal, it's fun interaction with locals and visitors. Sharing wine, tasting each other's meals. My only reservation about not recommending is if too many people come we won't be able to get in ... very small, so you need to book. Try 'dynamite' on the menu. Yum. See you there soon.
Nice and cosy restaurant ☺🍜
Awesome service and amazing food! I recommend their bitter melon and tofu dish, shoyu pork, and the fried squid. If you're lucky, you may get to experience a live musical performance by one of the staff! As for parking, it may be best to park on the street.
Fresh and simple.Grilled fish, salad, rice, hot tea. Highly suggest byob to enjoy with your meal. Don't be in a rush.
This place is awesome. We lived in Okinawa for over 5 years... Sunrise is almost like walking back in time. Okinawa music playing,... awesome but simple menu. Soba is the bomb... hope you never close.
This place was good Okinawan style cooking. I got the spare rib soup combo with the sushi it was pretty good.
I was absolutely blown away by the delicious and authentic Okinawan Soba they serve here at Sunrise. The broth is to die for. It's so rich and the ginger and green onion adds the perfect amount of bite to it. I can't wait to bring everyone I know here to enjoy a taste of Okinawa here in Hawaii! :)
Such great service and food. Definitely will be back for more.
Cozy restaurant serves Okinawa soba and oxtail soup and sushi.
Excellent Okinowan lunches
Great food, friendly atmosphere. Parking for dinner is difficult. Regulars park on the street in front of the restaurant regardless of the no parking anytime signs. Meter parking is available but, also difficult with many people dining at other restaurants. We'll worth the inconvenience.
Ox tail soup plus pig feet soup is always good.
